Cambodia’s Crude Oil Imports Fall 12 pct in Q-1

Cambodia imported 412,190 tons of Crude Oil in Q-1 of Y 2013, a 12% fall compared with the 471,000 tons it imported at the same period last year, the Commerce ministry’s report showed Saturday.

During the January-March period this year, the country spent US$ 397-M to buy its Crude Oil down 15% from US$469-M at the same period last year, it said. …

Tycoon Kith Meng currently owns the kingdom’s largest mobile phone operator, Mobitel. In April 2011, the government of Cambodia signed a concessional contract to grant his company to study and prepare for the launching of a communications satellite.

Under the contract, the company will take three years to study and prepare for launching Cambodia Satellite-1 in order to serve phone, broadband Internet and broadcasting services and other sectors. …

Cambodia records US$1.51-B trade deficit in 7 months

Cambodia reported a trade deficit of 34% in equivalent to US$1.51-B in the 1st 7 months of this year, the report of the Commerce Ministry showed Thursday.

During January-July period this year, the country’s total import and export value was US$7.45-B, up 15% from US$6.47-B at the same period last year, the report said.

The imports increased by 18% to US$4.48-B, whilst the exports rose by 11% to US$2.97-B, leading the trade deficit of US$1.51-B, it said.

Cambodia is heavily reliant on international trade, and the economy is supported by garment industry, tourism, agriculture and construction…
