Dolphins drive tourism

Kratie, a province in northeast Cambodia has seen an improvement in tourist arrivals and length of stay since the Mekong Discovery Trail project was established in 2007.
The Mekong Discovery Trail is a co-operative effort with the Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism and has the support of UNWTO, Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Netherlands Development Agency (SNV).
The project covers a trail190 km from the Laos-Cambodia border in Stung Treng province all the way to Kratie and comes with several suggested sub-trails having maps with attractions marked as well as transport options, brief information of the areas, possible itineraries and contact persons…

Vietnam Airlines builds Mekong hub

Vietnam Airlines outlined expansion at the 4-Code presentation seminar, Wednesday, just prior to the opening of 8th International Travel Expo 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The national airline reiterated its commitment at the trade fair to build Vietnam as a major gateway to the other three countries — Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia – that are part of the Four Countries One Destination marketing activity.
In the plan, Vietnam Airlines is identified as the main carrier to transport tourists between the four participating nations.

Cambodia’s tourism growth rate slows

Arrivals from Thailand and Laos gained the highest growth rate in May of all Cambodia’s tourist suppliers according to the country’s latest tourism report.
Released by the Statistics and Tourism Information Department of the Tourism Ministry, the report showed a slowdown in travel from Thailand during May when compared with April (+165.2%).
April was packed with holidays and that attracted more travel to Cambodia from neighbouring markets, but Thailand still delivered a massive 97.3% (12,974) growth rate in May as diplomatic relations between the two countries improved. …
