Illegal logs found in TTY truck

Conservation officials have confiscated a truck containing 20 cubic metres of illegally cut, luxury-grade timber from an economic land concession owned by the firm TTY Corporation, a district official said yesterday.

Kratie provincial officials seized the logs, along with two trucks and two cars on Monday and Tuesday, a Snuol district official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said. …

TTY to open $6m rice milling plant in 2013

Cambodian-owned TTY corporation will invest US$6 million in a rice milling plant in Kampong Speu province, company officials said yesterday.

Heng Sarath, TTY deputy director, said the factory would be built on national road 6, and would mill 20 tonnes of rice per year. Construction is hoped to be completed in 2013. …

Issues with Kingdom’s rice exports

Cambodian rice trader TTY Corporation has said the Kingdom cannot meet a new 200,000-tonne export quota for shipping high-quality rice to China.

State-owned Sinograin’s order for three varieties of milled fragrant rice was a deviation from an agreement struck with TTY in August, TTY deputy director-general Heng Sarath said on Sunday.

The original 200,000-tonne deal – about 20 per cent of the Cambodian government’s 2015 rice export goal – was for low-quality milled rice, Heng Sarath said. The Kingdom simply could not fill the new order, he said.

“In Cambodia, [some varieties of fragrant rice] are still not grown widely. We need to export tens of thousands of tonnes of this rice, so meeting the quota remains unlikely,” said Heng Sarath…
